Coming from a background in liberal arts and hotel management, I was driven by a passion for both creativity and business acumen. The hospitality industry provided an initial platform for me to cultivate my skills and gain valuable insights into various aspects of management. However, it was the allure of entrepreneurship that inspired me to take the leap into leadership. Founding Cosmo Advertising in 1997 was a pivotal moment in my professional journey. It represented not only a bold entrepreneurial venture but also my vision for a dynamic and innovative advertising agency. Over the years, we’ve achieved numerous milestones that have solidified Cosmo’s reputation as a dependable player in the competitive market. From winning awards for our creative excellence at prestigious events like the Dubai International Pharmaceutical and Technologies Conference and Exhibition (DUPHAT) to building long-lasting partnerships with global brands, each achievement has been a testament to our team’s dedication and commitment to delivering exceptional results.

What are some of the major challenges you’ve faced as a woman leader in the Arab world, and how have you overcome them? Can you share a particularly challenging situation you’ve encountered in your career and how you navigated it?

One particularly challenging situation arose during the formative years of Cosmo Advertising when securing funding and building credibility in the industry proved to be formidable tasks. As a newcomer to the advertising world and a woman forging her path in a competitive market, I faced skepticism from potential investors and clients alike. However, rather than succumbing to doubt, I chose to leverage my determination and resilience to overcome these obstacles. Through perseverance, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to excellence, I earned the respect and trust of my peers and clients. I focused on delivering tangible results and exceeding expectations, thereby establishing Cosmo as a reputable agency known for its creativity, innovation, and reliability. Additionally, I recognized the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture within Cosmo. By championing diversity, equity, and inclusivity, I ensured that all team members felt valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.

My goal is to continue driving Cosmo Advertising toward greater success while upholding our commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. I aspire to expand our reach, diversify our services, and forge meaningful partnerships that drive positive change in the industry, especially with evolving trends in advertising and digital marketing.

Balancing professional responsibilities and personal commitments is a constant challenge, but one that I prioritize. I make time for activities that rejuvenate me, whether it’s spending quality time with family and friends, pursuing hobbies and interests, or simply taking time to relax and recharge. Regular communication with my team and family helps ensure that everyone’s needs are met and that I can fulfill my responsibilities effectively. I also prioritize efficiency and time management, focusing on high-impact tasks and delegating to others as needed. By maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life, I’m able to stay focused, energized, and effective in both realms.

As Cosmo Advertising embarked on its journey 27 years ago, the landscape of female leadership was markedly different. In an era where female CEOs were a rarity, navigating the business world as a woman presented unique challenges. The UAE boasts a tolerant and progressive yet traditional culture that fosters success irrespective of gender, ethnicity, or background. In this environment, I’ve been fortunate not to have encountered overt gender bias or discrimination in my career. The support of the business landscape has allowed me to focus on leveraging my skills and abilities to drive success for Cosmo Advertising.

What advice would you give to young women who aspire to leadership roles in the Arab world? Can you share a motto or piece of wisdom that has guided you throughout your career journey?

When Cosmo Advertising was founded, female CEOs were a rarity in the region, and gender diversity in leadership positions was scarce. However, through perseverance, determination, and a commitment to excellence, we’ve witnessed a significant shift in the landscape. Today, more than ever, opportunities are available for women to break barriers, shatter stereotypes, and rise to leadership positions across industries. My motto, “Expect the best but be prepared for the worst,” encapsulates the resilience and adaptability needed to thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing business environment. By believing in yourself, staying true to your values, and embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, you can pave the way for future generations of women leaders in the Arab world.
