Some
journeys don’t begin with grand visions or master plans; they start with a
question. What if learning could change the way people live, lead, and work?
For Lize Moldenhauer, that question became the pulse of a
lifelong pursuit. She found meaning not in boardrooms but in the moments when
someone’s eyes lit up with understanding, when potential turned into
confidence, and when growth became contagious. Her story isn’t one of arrival
but of continuous becoming, a journey marked by courage, compassion, and the
quiet power of purpose.
A
Lifelong Journey of Learning, Leadership, and Purpose
Lize’s professional journey has
been guided by a passion for learning, simplifying complex problems, and making
a tangible difference. She began her career in financial services in 1992,
where her foundational business skills were shaped through banking operations.
It was during this time that she developed a deep sense of accountability, both
in serving clients and supporting internal teams. While working on a
digitization task team in banking, she discovered her love for helping people
grow and witnessing ideas come to life. The moment a concept “clicks” for
someone and they gain confidence became her inspiration to pursue a career in
learning and development.
Over the years, she took on roles
that spanned across learning, development, and human resource consulting, which
gave her a broader perspective on how people development and business
performance intersect. By the early 2000s, despite having built a solid
corporate foundation, she felt drawn toward something more meaningful. Lize
realized that real and lasting development begins with understanding people,
their challenges, and their culture. This realization led her to transition
into business consulting, where she could bring that belief to life.
After seven fulfilling years with
a consulting firm, Lize took a bold step forward in 2009, co-founding Omni HR
Consulting with four like-minded women. The move was exciting and deeply
personal. Starting with a small team and a big vision, they set out to deliver
business and people development solutions tailored to the realities of South
African organizations. Those early days were both exhilarating and daunting as
they built everything from the ground up—their service portfolio, client base,
and reputation.
Continuous learning and
adaptation have been the hallmarks of Lize’s journey. As Omni grew, she
actively engaged with industry bodies and educational forums to stay at the
forefront of developments in skills training. Her involvement in public-private
partnerships and panels aimed at improving education and youth employability
deepened her understanding of the systemic challenges in South Africa. These
experiences shaped how she leads Omni and the kind of projects the company
undertakes.
Today, as Managing Director, Lize
sees herself as a champion for learning and growth. Her journey was never about
chasing titles but about creating meaningful impact. Inspired by her father’s
belief that leadership is about service, she continues to lead with empathy,
strategy, and purpose. For Lize, the journey is ongoing, she evolves with the
ever-changing landscape of work and finds deep fulfillment in the process.
Excellence
with Purpose
To Lize, business excellence
extends far beyond profitability or meeting targets. It is rooted in quality,
integrity, and a commitment to doing things exceptionally well. At Omni, the
philosophy “creating standards that others are drawn to” embodies this belief.
Whether designing training programs, serving clients, or supporting employees,
excellence means operating with purpose and consistency.
She believes that excellence is
deeply connected to relationships. No process or strategy can succeed without
valuing customers, employees, and partners. Excellence is also dynamic—it
evolves with time, demanding continuous learning and innovation.
Within Omni, Lize instills this
mindset through a strong culture of communication, purpose, and example. From
the very beginning, employees understand that the company’s success is tied to
the growth and satisfaction of clients and learners. By connecting daily work
to a greater mission, she fosters a sense of ownership and pride.
Excellence is also built into
Omni’s systems. The organization maintains a robust quality assurance framework
across digital learning design, consulting models, and project management.
Benchmarking against international standards reinforces the belief that “good
enough” is never enough. Empowerment plays a vital role in this ecosystem, Lize
encourages her team to think like entrepreneurs, take initiative, and strive
for personal and professional mastery. In her words, when a culture values
integrity, learning, and relationships, excellence naturally follows.
Moments That Shaped Leadership
Several defining moments have
profoundly influenced Lize’s leadership style. The founding of Omni HR
Consulting was one of the most transformative. Entering a competitive market as
a new company was a test of perseverance. With limited resources and no established
reputation, earning trust was a challenge. Through it all, Lize learned the
importance of clarity of vision, persistence, and relationship-building. Her
leadership became hands-on, grounded in empathy and direct engagement with both
clients and teams.
A deeply personal challenge came
in 2010 when she was diagnosed with cancer. The two years that followed tested
her strength and faith in ways she had never imagined. This experience reshaped
her understanding of leadership, it became less about authority and more about
presence, gratitude, and care. She discovered that true strength is revealed
through vulnerability and that courage is choosing to show up despite fear.
This period profoundly changed her leadership philosophy, infusing Omni with a
culture of compassion, purpose, and authenticity.
Another milestone came between
2016 and 2020 when Omni led one of its most significant projects, a national
skills development program for one of South Africa’s largest retailers. The
initiative trained over 21,000 young people, with more than 17,000 completing
their programs and 11,000 securing employments. Witnessing the transformation
of these young individuals reaffirmed Lize’s belief that leadership is about
creating space for others to thrive.
Each challenge and triumph, from
founding a company to overcoming personal adversity, scaling operations, and
leading impactful projects, has shaped Lize into a resilient, empathetic, and
purpose-driven leader. Her approach today reflects a balance of adaptability
and grounded vision. She continues to lead with heart, conviction, and the
belief that the true legacy of leadership lies in the lives uplifted along the
way.
Where
Leadership Takes Root
Lize believes that leadership can
be cultivated through intention, opportunity, and trust. At Omni HR Consulting,
she has created an environment where learning and development are part of the
company’s DNA. She encourages her team to invest in continuous professional
growth through training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and mentorship. For Lize,
mentoring is not confined to formal programs; it often happens organically,
through trust and shared purpose.
Her approach to nurturing
leadership talent centers on empowerment. When she identifies high-potential
individuals, she gives them opportunities to lead projects that challenge and
stretch their abilities. This trust, she believes, fast-tracks both confidence
and capability. At Omni, leaders grow by being equipped, empowered, and
supported. For Lize, success lies in seeing people evolve into better versions
of themselves, whether they continue to grow within the organization or pursue
opportunities beyond it.
Building a Culture of Inclusion
and Respect
Inclusivity is a core value for
Lize, one that shapes how Omni operates both locally and globally. She believes
inclusive leadership is essential for success, especially as the company
engages with international clients and partners. At Omni, respect and empathy
are non-negotiable values. Lize ensures that every team member’s voice is
valued and heard, with equal space for both outspoken and quieter contributors.
She promotes curiosity and
cultural agility, encouraging her team to learn about different backgrounds
rather than make assumptions. For her, diversity is not a challenge but a
wellspring of creativity and innovation. This inclusive culture, she notes, has
made Omni a workplace where people feel they belong, and that sense of
belonging fuels performance and excellence.
Collaboration as a Cornerstone of
Success
Lize views collaboration as a
defining force behind Omni’s longevity and impact. She believes no success
happens in isolation. Within the company, teams work cross-functionally,
ensuring collective problem-solving and shared accountability. Externally, Omni
operates with a partnership mindset, co-creating tailored solutions with
clients rather than delivering one-size-fits-all programs.
For Lize, collaboration extends
beyond projects; it builds networks of trust and resilience. Strategic
alliances, she believes, strengthen innovation and sustainability. By nurturing
long-term partnerships, Omni continues to evolve and remain relevant, even in
an unpredictable business environment.
Charting
the Course to 2030
Looking ahead, Lize describes
2025 as a defining year for Omni, marking the halfway point toward its 2030
aspirations. A top priority is leveraging global collaborations to expand
service offerings and reach new markets. The company plans to deliver leadership
and development programs across multiple regions, combining international
standards with local relevance.
Thought leadership is another
major focus. Lize aims to position Omni as a voice that shapes conversations on
future skills and leadership in the digital age. Her broader vision aligns with
Omni’s mission to deliver sustainable growth, digital innovation, and community
impact while nurturing employee well-being. Each of these goals reinforces the
organization’s purpose: to help people and businesses thrive together.
Leadership
as a Journey of Service
Lize’s advice to aspiring leaders
is rooted in humility, integrity, and purpose. She encourages them to be
lifelong learners, curious, adaptable, and open to growth. Every experience,
she says, offers a lesson that shapes leadership maturity.
Integrity, for her, is the anchor
of authentic leadership. She believes that knowing one’s values and standing
firm in them builds trust and credibility, especially in challenging times.
Purpose, she adds, gives leaders resilience and direction.
Finally, Lize emphasizes the importance of service-oriented leadership. True leadership, she believes, is about empowering others and creating collective success. When leaders focus on uplifting those around them, they inspire excellence not through authority but through example
