Naburva Business Solutions Inc. is a Calgary-based management consulting and training and development service provider. Our mission, plain and simple, is to help our clients improve their performance – both people and processes – through our services. First of all, part of what sets us apart is the quality of our work; we take pride in the fact that we set gold standards in everything we do. This is evident from the various partnerships that we have with highly respected, prestigious professional associations in Canada and globally. Naburva has been recognized as among Canada’s top-10 learning & development service providers in 2023 and is also a recipient of the 2024 Excellence in Leadership Development award. This recognition is a testimony to our never-ending commitment to excellence and is a result of the superb dedication and commitment of our team members.

Secondly, we believe in providing a full-spectrum solution to the problem we are helping our clients address. We don’t believe in just addressing the symptoms; rather, we make sure we are addressing the root of the problem. For example, a mandate around process improvement essentially involves change. So, unless an effective change management mechanism is in place, focusing only on the technical aspect of process redesign will not be of much help to the client. Similarly, an assignment involving building a culture of learning or engagement will not be fully productive in the absence of any leadership development component. So, we define the scope of our project in such a way that it aims to address the root cause of a problem rather than just cosmetic changes to the process.

As the CEO, what inspired you to establish Naburva Business Solutions Inc.? Could you elaborate on the strategic vision of the company and how it aligns with the current market trends and client needs?

It started back in 2019 when I was reading a report on SMEs published by Statistics Canada. The report indicated that nearly half of the startups in Canada fail to survive past their 10th anniversary, and about one-third are unable to make it past their 5th, and here we are talking about pre-COVID numbers. The data was shocking to me. I started thinking about how I could help startups and small businesses establish their businesses on a strategically sound footing and attain sustainable growth by bringing consulting services within the affordability of these small businesses. This is the motivation that led to the birth of Naburva in November 2019. We have evolved since then and have now extended the scope of our services to larger-sized organizations as well, adding more components to our portfolio of services.

Can you detail the range of services provided by Naburva? What are the key domains or industries where Naburva specializes, and how do you ensure expertise in these areas?

Our services can be categorized into two major branches – management consulting and training. Within the domain of management consulting, we provide services in the areas of business strategy, human resources and talent management, and process improvement projects, whereas our training and certification programs include HR Project Management, Lean Six Sigma, and Leadership.

Could you share some notable success stories or case studies where Naburva’s services made a significant impact on client businesses? How does Naburva measure the success of its consulting interventions?

We have completed numerous assignments in multiple areas, adding tremendous value to our clients’ businesses. For example, we worked on a project that involved the automation of the time & attendance process. We helped the client switch from a manual, paper-based process to a biometric attendance management system, which led to a total elimination of the risk of human errors, slashing of the processing time by more than 85%, and significant improvement in the accuracy of payroll system, and a deep sense of trust on the new process. Another example would be a project that we did on process improvement but provided leadership development workshops as a part of our scope, which enabled our client to effectively maneuver change, manage stakeholders, and build engagement surrounding the new process.

To the second part of your question, I don’t define success by a single parameter. To me, it would be a pretty narrow definition and could either lead to a false sense of accomplishment or a mistaken feeling of failure. Let me explain this. I could say a project resulted in a 70% reduction in processing time. Could I consider this alone as a measure of success? What if there was a great deal of uncertainty, mistrust, and resentment among the stakeholders? What if some key contributors left the organization due to their discomfort with change? What if the investment was so huge that it offset the financial gain, resulting in a negative NPV? Conversely, if a project apparently seems to have no direct ROI in dollar amount, should it essentially be considered a failure? What if the ROI is intangible, such as better leadership quality or higher engagement and retention of the top talent? So, I measure success in broader terms on multiple parameters. We consider a project successful when we have helped our client move the needle based on the aggregate effect of the impact across multiple areas that we have helped them improve.

How does Naburva gather feedback from clients, and how is this feedback incorporated into improving the company’s services? Can you discuss any specific instances where client feedback led to meaningful changes or enhancements in Naburva’s approach?

It is extremely important for business success to monitor and gather client feedback. Ensuring that we improve our internal business processes and consulting services to meet our clients’ needs more precisely helps us secure projects, enlarge our clients’ portfolios with new opportunities, and ensure our existing clients benefit from long-term relationships.

One of the easiest yet most effective ways to gather client feedback is through surveys and questionnaires. We have found that multiple-choice questions serve us best, as they allow us to compare data points to identify our strengths and areas for improvement. Open-ended questions are also valuable as they provide detailed insights into what exactly bothers or fascinates our clients. During client meetings, we make it a point to gather as much feedback as possible without overwhelming the client. One-on-one interviews provide us with in-depth insights into our clients’ experiences.

In addition to surveys and interviews, we also monitor social media and review platforms such as Google Reviews, Glassdoor, Yelp, and others. These platforms usually encourage a more casual approach to leaving feedback, and most of the feedback is anonymous, which often makes it more honest.

With all the feedback collected and analyzed, we are dedicated to improving our business consulting services. An example would be a talent management case we executed for a client who was looking to hire an internal project manager for a specific project implementation. One key piece of feedback we received from the client was that they value their culture and people. They wanted the new hire to be a great fit not only in terms of hard skills but also in alignment with the company’s culture. To address this, we added a few interview questions to identify if the candidates share the company’s core values and if they would be a successful fit for the team.
